Shadow Princess by Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti Review

Shadow Princess by Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti Review

If there’s one thing the Zodiac Academy series does exceptionally well, it’s chaos — and Shadow Princess somehow raises the stakes even higher. This fourth installment completely consumed me. Between the betrayals, dangerous secrets, brutal academy politics, and emotionally devastating character moments, I genuinely could not put it down.

The tension in this book feels relentless in the best way possible. Every chapter leaves you needing just one more, and before you realize it, you’re emotionally attached to characters who are constantly making questionable decisions while simultaneously ruining your life. The balance between dark fantasy, romance, humor, and heartbreak is what keeps this series so addictive.

The relationships in Shadow Princess are messy, intense, and emotionally charged. The character development really starts deepening here, especially as loyalties shift and hidden vulnerabilities come to light. I loved seeing more layers to both the Vega twins and the Heirs, even when I wanted to scream at all of them equally.

And the ending? Absolutely unforgiving. Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti clearly believe in emotional damage as a storytelling technique because that cliffhanger was brutal. I literally cried.

This series continues to feel like the perfect mix of magical academia, enemies-to-lovers tension, found family, and complete emotional destruction. If you enjoy romantasy with morally grey characters, high drama, addictive pacing, and the kind of story that keeps you awake way too late reading “one more chapter,” Shadow Princess delivers all of it.
